The medium is unimportant, it is the thought process, the passionate connection I have to the piece I am creating. I am deeply responsive to my surroundings and I try to convey these perceptions through my art.
I have been immersed in art since the age of seven or so. I always had paints and pencils. Having a keen eye and a childlike inquisitiveness has always had a major role in whatever I am embarking on. Creating is an escape, a quiet zen moment coupled with intense concentration.
In my twenties I was working at Textron Financial in Providence RI. Upon getting hired I was asked by the President of the Company, “Why are you here? Your entire background is art related?”. My reply was “There are opportunities everywhere, why not here?” So I had been hired to work in the insurance department. After a year or two, I worked at the technology help desk. After I had a firm background with computers and software I was asked about web designing for their intranet. Textron Financial was a wonderful company and they paid for my education at RISD. I took courses on web design and graphics. I learned so much from those courses, Photoshop being a major part in my life. I met my husband soon after that and I never got to finish the graphic design course. I became a stay at home mom and I worked for my husband during the day from home.
I rather enjoyed being home with my children, they are such a source of inspiration for me. I wouldn’t have traded that time home with them for anything in the world. It has been wonderful seeing them grow up to be the outstanding people they are today.
I never really gave up learning though, I just learned in a different way. I have always been a reader so the internet has become my university. I have tried many graphic, 3D Sculpting, rigging, lighting, cad cam programs. I have watched many tutorials. I have been immersed with 3D software for about 8 years, mostly posing, rigging and lighting. Just in the past three years I have begun with 3D sculpting my own models for 3D printing. Zbrush by Pixologic has become my favorite sculpting program. I really enjoy using it and the company is so wonderful. They do their best to make sure their customers have a grasp of how to use the software and if you need assistance there is no hesitation.
I also have a fondness for 3D printing, I use a fused filament printer from Cubify. 3D printing is a challenge and is always changing. Technology is rapidly modifying how the end user can accomplish their goals.
I am a do it yourselfer, a maker.
